Meet the people behind Low Tide Audio
Tara MenonCo-founder, host of The Long Commute
Sam OkaforCo-founder, producer
Ishaan VermaHost of Kitchen Table Money
Tara and Sam started The Long Commute on a bus, recording conversations with strangers about where they were going. It found an audience, and two more shows followed: Kitchen Table Money, about household finances, and Small Town Science.
The network pays for itself through sponsors, a membership with bonus episodes and early access, and a live show once a month where listeners fill a café basement.
Sam edits most nights. Tara books guests. Ishaan presents from a cupboard lined with duvets.
What was going wrong
Each show was hosted on a different service. Members paid through one tool, got bonus episodes through another and bought live tickets through a third. When a card payment failed, nobody noticed until the member complained.
Sponsor agreements were email threads. The affiliate codes listeners used for discounts were tracked in a spreadsheet, and payouts to guest hosts were late more often than not.
“Our listeners were generous. We kept making it hard for them to give us money.”
The workarounds that got them this far
- A different host for each show
Three logins, three dashboards and no idea who listened to all three.
- A tip jar service for members
Took payments but could not gate bonus episodes.
- A ticketing site for the live shows
Worked on the night, but the audience list never made it back to the network.
Low Tide Audio on Intersink
Sam creates his User ID and adds Low Tide as the business. Each show becomes its own channel with the Podcasts app, so each keeps its own feed and pages. The network channel carries the website, memberships, events and affiliate codes. Ishaan gets a role on his show only.
The apps in this story

A day in their life, some months in
Sam publishes the new Long Commute episode. It goes out to the major podcast apps, with a transcript on the episode page.
A member’s card payment fails. A retry goes out automatically, so nobody has to send an awkward email.
Tara sends a sponsor their agreement for next quarter. It comes back signed the same afternoon.
Tickets open for next month’s live show. Members get a discount code first.
At the café, volunteers check people in with QR codes on their phones.
Guest hosts who shared affiliate links are paid their commission, with the right tax deducted.
What is different now
In plain words, because this is an illustrative story and there are no real measurements behind it.
Members stay members
Failed payments are retried rather than silently lost.
One audience, not three
Members, ticket buyers and affiliates live in the same place.
Sponsors are on paper, properly
Agreements are signed, stored and flagged before they expire.
Guest hosts get paid on time
Commission rules and monthly payouts replace the spreadsheet.

What others could take from this
- A channel per show
Each show keeps its feed, look and audience, and can move or stop without touching the others.
- Put members at the network level
One membership covering all shows was simpler to explain and to run.
- Small apps, added slowly
The network started with hosting alone and added the rest as listeners asked.
