Meet the people behind Kinari Hair & Skin
Priya NairCo-founder, runs the salons
Arjun NairCo-founder, money and marketing
Sunita DasSenior stylist and trainer
Priya trained as a stylist and opened the first Kinari above a sweet shop. Arjun left a bank job to help when the second salon opened. The third came when a landlord offered a corner unit near the metro.
Each salon has four or five chairs, a manager and a group of regulars who ask for their stylist by name. Sunita moves between them, training new stylists on Mondays.
The brand lives on Instagram. Most new clients arrive from a photo of someone’s haircut.
What was going wrong
Bookings came by phone, Instagram message and walk-in, into a separate diary at each salon. A regular who moved across town was a stranger at the next salon’s front desk.
Stylist commissions were worked out on a calculator at month end, and arguments followed. Arjun could not tell which salon was busy on which day without phoning all three managers.
“Our regulars don’t think of us as three salons. They think of us as Kinari. The system needed to think that way too.”
The workarounds that got them this far
- A diary at each front desk
Each one was right about its own salon and knew nothing about the others.
- A generic booking app
Handled appointments but not packages, product sales or commissions.
- A loyalty punch card
Lost in handbags, forgotten at the till.
Kinari Hair & Skin on Intersink
Priya creates her User ID and adds Kinari as the business. Each salon becomes its own channel with its own stylists, menu and till, and a brand channel carries the website and campaigns. Salon managers get a role on their salon only; Arjun and Priya see everything.

A day in their life, some months in
Sunita checks the day’s bookings at Lake Road. Three are regulars from Sweet Street who moved closer to work.
A client books a colour appointment online with her usual stylist.
At checkout she buys a bottle of conditioner. It goes on the same bill, and her points go up.
Arjun schedules next week’s Instagram posts and approves a campaign to clients who have not visited in two months.
A two-star review arrives. The manager gets an alert and replies within the hour.
Commissions are worked out from the bookings and sales each stylist made. Nobody reaches for a calculator.
What is different now
In plain words, because this is an illustrative story and there are no real measurements behind it.
Regulars feel looked after
Points on every visit, tiers and birthday offers replace the punch card that lived in a handbag.
Commissions stop being an argument
They come from the bookings and sales the stylist actually made.
The owners see all three salons
Arjun compares days and services without phoning anyone.
Bad days get a reply, not silence
Negative reviews raise an alert so the manager can respond while it matters.

What others could take from this
- Keep each salon its own channel
Stylists, menus and tills differ by location, and managers need their own space.
- Put the brand on its own channel too
Website and campaigns belong to Kinari, not to any one salon.
- Open new salons from a copy of what works
A fourth salon is another channel with the same four apps.
Running a salon or a studio?
Bookings by stylist, a till, packages and reviews, for one chair or many.
